The Troop783general Email Distribution List
The troop maintains a general purpose email distribution list that can be used by authorized members for announcements of potential interest to the entire troop membership. This distribution list is implemented as a Yahoo discussion group.
@ Joining the mailing list: For each email address you want to add to the list, send a message from that address to email@example.com with any subject line.
In the message body, be sure to indicate the name(s) of all members, Scout or adult, who are associated with the email address.
Once sent, Yahoo will forward the request to the webmaster who will then approve the request.
@ Using the mailing list: Once an email address is enrolled, members can send email messages to the entire troop by addressing them to Troop783general@yahoogroups.com Please observe the following guidelines when using this capability:
Send only messages that are of potential interest to the all members. If you wish to communicate with a subset of the troop membership, you would be better served by using the ad-hoc email distribution list capability described below.
When responding to these messages, avoid using the "reply to all" capability unless that is what you really intend. In most cases, you only need to reply to the message sender.
If you are sending a message, you can protect your message from inadvertent "reply to all" responses using the following model when addressing your message:
|BCC:||"Troop 783" <Troop783general@yahoo.com>|
@ Quitting the mailing list: For each email address you want to remove from the list, send a message from that address to firstname.lastname@example.org
